NEW FOREST, England — The paramedic was driving the emergency vehicle when it ploughed into a ditch in the New Forest on Friday morning.

One of the elderly man’s relatives and another paramedic, who were both in the back of the ambulance, suffered serious injuries in the crash on the A337 between Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst.

The driver of a blue Seat Alhambra, which was traveling in the same direction as the ambulance, was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention.

Inspector Kirsty Shannon, of Hampshire Police, said: “This is a very tragic incident and our sympathies are with the families of the ambulance driver and patient.”
