EL PASO, Texas — An ambulance transporting a patient crashed with a sedan early today on Interstate 10 East, El Paso police said.

Det. Mike Baranyay, spokesman for the El Paso Police Department, said officers received a call about the crash involving an ambulance operated by Life Ambulance shortly after 2 a.m. today.

The ambulance, which was traveling with lights and siren on, was transporting a patient who had been in a crash earlier near Anthony, N.M.

Police said a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse was traveling east on I-10 East at a high rate of speed, when the driver made an unsafe lane change, lost control and crashed into a center concrete barrier.

The Eclipse then spun out of control and crashed into the ambulance.

No injuries were reported in the ambulance and sedan collision.

Life Ambulance sent another ambulance to finish transporting the patient from the earlier crash to University Medical Center.

Speed is believed to be a factor in this crash, police said.

The driver of the Eclipse was cited for alleged failure to yield right of way to an emergency vehicle, speeding, failure to display a valid driver’s license and unsafe lane change.
