OXNARD, Calif. — A Gold Coast ambulance en route to a medical emergency flipped over after being broadsided by another vehicle while traveling west on Channel Islands Boulevard in the Victoria Avenue intersection in Oxnard Monday afternoon.

Witnesses told police that the ambulance had almost made a complete stop before entering the intersection. But the ambulance was hit by a sport utility vehicle as it crossed the southbound portion of Victoria Avenue, causing it to spin and roll over on to its side about 3:20 p.m.

A 12-year-old passenger in the SUV was treated at the scene after he complained of chest pain from the seat belt.

The paramedics in the ambulance were treated at the hospital as a precaution only, Oxnard police said.
