Ambulance breaks down transporting wounded carjacking suspect

It was unclear Wednesday evening whether the delay contributed to the man’s death

WASHINGTON — An ambulance carrying a carjacking suspect, who was shot by D.C. police, broke down on the way to the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect, 24-year-old Nathaniel McRae of Northwest D.C., was pronounced dead at the hospital after he was moved to a second ambulance.

The man was shot by police, who had been pursuing him, when he got out of the stolen vehicle along Barnaby Street SE. An officer was injured during the incident. Police have not released the names of the police officers.
