METAMORA, Ill. — Authorities are investigating the circumstances of an accident that killed a 64-year-old Metamora woman and injured two Peru men Wednesday evening in a car-ambulance accident near Metamora.

Galeen Driscoll was pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m. at the scene on Illinois 116 about four tenths of a mile east of Woodford County Road 1200 East, Woodford County Coroner Tim Ruestman said. The accident was reported at 5:02 p.m.

Her car collided with a city of Peru ambulance driven by Daniel G. Dempsey, 44, of Peru, Ruestman said. The ambulance was not transporting a patient at the time of the accident, he said.

Dempsey and his passenger, James Zborowski, 61, of Peru, were taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Ruestman said. Dempsey was admitted in fair condition, and hospital officials said late Wednesday that Zborowski was expected to be released.

The accident remains under investigation and additional information on how the crash happened was not available late Wednesday.
