Police: EMS provider robbed bank, drove off in ambulance

The Tricare Medical Transportation driver allegedly demanded money from a bank teller, and used the company’s ambulance as his getaway vehicle

ABSECON, N.J. — Police say an employee at a medical transportation company allegedly robbed a bank, and drove off in an ambulance that belonged to the company.

Joseph Wilson, 26, who is no longer employed at Tricare Medical Transportation, was arrested after handing a bank teller a note demanding money around 1 p.m. Tuesday, Press of Atlantic City reports.

The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of money. Wilson then fled the bank on foot before getting into a Tricare ambulance and driving away. The ambulance was later found and impounded. Police were able to track Wilson to a home and arrested him without incident. He faces one charge of robbery, and was unable to pay a cash bail of $100,000.

Tricare owner Anthony S. Maneri said he was shocked. He said Wilson worked as a driver at the company, and provided no further information about his employment.
