He will serve 27 months for offering kickbacks for fake Medicare ambulance transports

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A man who allegedly struck and killed a Philadelphia woman and her three young sons while drag racing has been sentenced to 27 months behind bars in an unrelated ambulance fraud case.

The defendant, 23-year-old Khusen Akhmedov, pleaded guilty in federal court in December to involvement in a Medicare fraud of more than $1.5 million. Prosecutors said he recruited non-emergency patients for ambulance trips and promised them kickback payments.

Akhmedov still faces murder charges in the July 16 crash.
