WARREN COUNTY, Tenn. — A patient was killed in an ambulance crash Thursday, according to officials.
Herald-Citizen reported that the White County ambulance was transporting patient Clifton Harville, 60, to the hospital when Carol Simpson struck it with her vehicle, according to police.
The crash caused the ambulance to flip over, landing on its topside in the road.
Harville was transported to the hospital in another ambulance, where he later died.
Ethan Deweese, who was driving the ambulance, and John Hurd, who was a passenger, were both treated for injuries.
Police said Simpson had drugs in her system at the time of the crash. The incident is currently under investigation.
“It is still under investigation, but at this time the driver of the van (Simpson) is being charged with vehicular homicide, attempted vehicular homicide, and 3 counts of reckless endangerment, possible other charges pending,” Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Kent Norris said.
