LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Two paramedics who were hurt in a January ambulance crash that killed the patient they were transporting are back on the job.

PA Homepage reported that Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance paramedics Mike Ankenbrand and Emmett Thomas were transporting Margaret Milewski, 87, in January when a minivan crashed into the ambulance after crossing the yellow line, according to police.

Milewski died as a result of injuries she suffered in the crash. The two paramedics were also injured, but both said the patient was their ultimate concern.

“It was very difficult,” Thomas said. “But we had to do what we had to do, and the patient that we had was our main concern, no matter what.”

“I look at things a lot differently now,” Ankenbrand said. “You know when people get into accidents, I have a better understanding, unfortunately, of what they have gone through.”
