EMT killed in Iowa ambulance crash

Steven Werner was killed when an ambulance crashed into a semi-tractor trailer that had stopped on a bridge for construction

DUBUQUE, Iowa — Officials identified an EMT who was killed Friday in an ambulance crash.

KCRG reported that the Paramount Ambulance Service ambulance crashed into a semi-tractor trailer that had stopped for construction on a bridge. The East Dubuque Police Department said EMT Steven Werner, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Des Moines Register .

Jack Dillman, who was driving the ambulance, was transported to the hospital. The driver of the semi-tractor trailer was not injured.

Paramount Ambulance Service said the ambulance was on its way back from transporting a patient to a medical facility in Chicago when the crash occurred.

“We are all devastated and profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of our EMT and friend,” Paramount Ambulance owners Maria and Marvin Ney said. “We will continue to try and comfort the crew member’s families as well as everyone on our team.”

The crash is currently under investigation.
