SAN LORENZO, Calif. — Three EMS personnel were hurt and one patient was killed in an ambulance crash Monday.

NBC Bay Area reported that the Paramedics Plus ambulance was transporting the patient with its lights and sirens activated when a vehicle crashed into it, causing it to overturn, according to the Alameda County Fire Department.

KTVU reported that the patient was identified as Catherine Sunday, 74, according to the Alameda County Coroner, but it is unclear if she died from injuries suffered in the crash or because of her condition before the incident.

The three EMS personnel and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to the hospital and were released later in the day.

“We’re proud of our firefighters and the paramedics inside who continued to give care,” Alameda County Fire Department Deputy Chief Jim Call said.
