COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — A head-on collision on U.S. 41 in east Collier County resulted in a three-vehicle crash and killed at least one person Monday.
Lt. Chris Miller with Florida Highway Patrol said the crash at U.S. 41 and 11 Mile Road near the Collier/Miami-Dade county line, also shut down U.S. 41 on Monday afternoon from Krome Avenue at the Miccosukee Casino in Miami-Dade to State
However, by about 9 p.m., Florida Highway Patrol officials reopened both lanes of U.S. 41. FHP is investigating the accident.
In addition to the one confirmed fatality, Miller said six patients were transported for medical attention as a result of the three-vehicle crash.
The call came in at 3:56 p.m. said Collier County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Natalie Felber.
According to Collier EMS spokeswoman Cherie Wilson-Watson, EMS and Ochopee Fire District crews were dispatched to the scene.
Wilson-Watson added Miami-Dade Fire and EMS also responded to the scene.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said two of their air ambulances transported four victims to Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Collier EMS’s Medflight air ambulance transported one of the injured to Jackson Memorial.
No additional information on what kind of vehicles were involved or the health of the victims was available.
