WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. — A Washoe County, Nevada, fire chief was struck by a vehicle while helping another driver Monday morning. KCRA3 reported Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue Chief Charles Moore was struck on northbound Interstate 530.

According to a Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue post, Chief Moore was transported by a TMFR ambulance to Renown Medical Center with chest injuries and abrasions. “He is recovering at home and in good spirits,” the post reads. “Chief Moore is grateful to his superb paramedics who assisted him and appreciates the concern of many community members.”

The department added a message to motorists in their post, “This is a reminder to slow down during icy road conditions, especially while passing a distressed vehicle on the side of the road.”
