YAZOO COUNTY, Miss. — An investigation is underway into a robbery that occurred inside of a 911 dispatch office.
WJTV reported that a Yazoo County dispatcher was inside of the call center when a man with a gun attacked her while her coworker was in the bathroom.
“Somewhere around 11:30 or midnight we received a call from dispatch that she had just been robbed,” Investigator Terry Gann said.
A police spokesperson said it is unknown how the suspect entered the building, but he was able to hide until he robbed the dispatcher.
“Once he got in here in to the dispatch area he was able to stay hunkered down behind the desk and came around the desk and stuck a gun to her neck and told her to give him the money,” Gann said.
Gann added that the dispatcher was carrying a lot of money at the time.
“Somebody knew she had a lot of money in her purse, she was fixing to pay her bills,” he said.
Gann said the incident brought about “shock and then pure anger, that now, that’s family, when you go messing with our dispatchers.”
The dispatcher was not hurt in the incident. Security is now being tightened around the area.
