DALTON, Ga. — The Dalton Police Department arrested a man Thursday for apparently stabbing his wife then fighting with emergency medical technicians outside of his home, where the snow-covered driveway was streaked with blood.

Police were dispatched to 1603 Elaine Way at 12:20 p.m. Thursday to a report of a stabbing at the residence. EMTs staged near the scene waiting for police officers to arrive saw David Dyer, 48, bleeding outside the residence.

Dyer attacked and fought with one of the EMTs and was arrested by responding officers. The EMT was taken to Hamilton Medical Center with minor injuries.

Dyer was transported with what appeared to be self-inflicted cuts to his wrists. Inside, officers found his wife, Glenda Dyer, with apparent stab wounds. She was taken to the hospital and was reportedly in stable condition.

As of late Thursday afternoon, David Dyer was hospitalized. Police had taken out a warrant on Dyer for aggravated assault on his wife. Other charges against him are pending.

This isn’t the first time police have been called to the home.

In August 2014, Dyer barricaded himself in his house while police officers and first responders waited outside. Earlier that day Dyer had been involved in a minor traffic accident.

Officers arrived at Dyer’s home at about 6 that evening. An officer knocked on the door and Dyer’s daughter and grandchild answered, telling the officer Dyer had a gun. His daughter said Dyer never pointed the gun at her or the child, or threatened them, according to the incident report. She told police Dyer has a substance abuse problem with prescription pills and had recently been released from rehab.

The officer asked them to leave the house, and contact was made with Dyer. He agreed to come outside but after officers heard several loud bangs coming from the garage they couldn’t get him on the phone for several hours, the report said.

Officers got a search warrant and at about 9:30 p.m. an officer went into the garage and found Dyer face down on the garage floor with a “frothy substance” coming from his mouth. He was taken to Hamilton Medical Center. Police returned to the home and seized a handgun and two magazines. Dyer was charged then with several crimes.
