DALLAS — A suspected intoxicated driver with a history of driving drunk is accused of nearly running over a Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedic and hitting a car while fleeing from police late Saturday.
Ernesto Rodriguez, 27, faces a charge of aggravated assault on a public servant, aggravated assault with a vehicle, evading arrest and driving while intoxicated. The events that led to Rodriguez’s latest legal troubles began about 9:40 p.m. Saturday when Rodriguez was found passed out in a dark green Toyota Camry in Pleasant Grove, a police report said.
As Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedics tried to check on him, he woke up and chunked a beer bottle over a nearby fence, a report said. Firefighters removed his keys from the Camry to try to prevent him from driving away, but Rodriguez somehow started his vehicle using an unidentified tool, a report said.
