KINSTON, N.C. — A Lenoir County Emergency Medical Services paramedic was shot while loading a patient into the ambulance on May 28, 2023.

According to a Lenoir County Emergency Services Facebook post the paramedic was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.

Just before 6 p.m., as the paramedic was attempting to load a patient into the ambulance, a vehicle slammed into the front of the ambulance. A suspect emerged from the vehicle, fired a weapon and the paramedic was struck.

The Kinston Police Department is investigating the case.

Police Chief Keith Goyette told WCTI the paramedic was not the shooter's intended target.
