OTIS, Mass. — A local man who had been missing for nearly a day was found dead late this morning not far from his home.
The body of the 54-year-old Otis resident, whose name hasn’t been released by town police, was discovered about 10:45 a.m. by searchers off of Ridge Avenue along Otis Reservoir, according to Otis Police Chief Roberta Sarnacki.
Sarnacki said no foul play was involved, but the cause of death remains under investigation.
The victim’s wife reported her husband missing at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, and local and state police immediately began searching the area near the couple’s home.
“The search was always localized, as we knew he was on foot,” Sarnacki said.
She said the search was hampered by heavy downpours throughout Tuesday night but intensified after daybreak with the help of a state police helicopter flying over the scene.
Town firefighters and members of the Otis Rescue Squad, the community’s ambulance service, assisted in the search.
