ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — An off-duty Alabama paramedic is being hailed as a hero for rescuing a man while vacationing in Florida.

Sumiton Fire & Rescue Paramedic Mikey Waid was enjoying time off along a lake in Escambia County when he heard calls to help a man who was drowning, WTVM reported.

Waid dove into the water and then pulled the man onto a boat that had come to assist.

The boat then came ashore and the man was turned over to Escambia County Fire & Rescue personnel and is expected to recover.
