ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Flight paramedic and educator Corey Shawn Pittman, 41, died on Memorial Day from a heart attack.

Pittman was a paramedic for 22 years. He also worked ten years as a flight paramedic and critical care educator. He was a North Carolina delegate to International Trauma Life Support and the director of Critical Care Education at A-B Tech.

Co-workers remember Pittman for his skills as a caregiver and excellence as an instructor, reported WLOS.

“It was a tragic loss,” said John Grindstaff, Pittman’s supervisor. “He’s one of those people you meet once in a lifetime. He was a shining star that epitomized everything good.”

“Cory was a fantastic, energetic instructor. People enjoyed listening to his teaching. He was able to get his point across so easy,” said Keith Owens, A-B Tech’s EMS program director.

Owens says many students were attracted to A-B Tech’s EMS program because of Pittman’s classes.

Pittman’s family, friends, co-workers and students will honor his life and service during a memorial on Sunday, June 5. He is survived by a wife and two children.

More information is available about the service and a scholarship fund established in Pittman’s memory is available on a memorial Facebook page.
