EL PASO, Texas — A four-vehicle accident Friday night in the Lower Valley sent 14 people — three of them seriously injured — to a hospital.
Police dispatchers said that about 10:55 p.m. they began receiving calls about three vehicles blocking the intersection in the 9700 block of Alameda Avenue.
A few minutes later, witnesses clarified and said four vehicles were involved.
When police arrived, they found that everyone involved in the crash was injured.
Further investigation revealed that a 2006 Nissan Altima and a 2003 Ford Escape were eastbound on Alameda, while a 1993 Mercury Tracer, and a 2000 Saturn were westbound.
The driver of the Altima lost control of the car, veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into the westbound vehicles, officials said.
This caused a chain reaction, and the four vehicles crashed into each other.
Nine rescue ambulances at the scene took 14 people to a hospital.
The driver of the Tracer, a rear-seat passenger in the Altima and a rear-seat passenger in the Saturn were seriously injured.
No one died in the multi-vehicle crash, police said, and everyone was wearing a seatbelt.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, officials said.
The El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit is investigating the crash.
