CUMBERLAND, Md. — A firefighter-EMT died after a month-long battle with COVID-19.

Cumberland Fire Department Firefighter-EMT Kelly Frye died after contracting the virus while on duty. According to the U.S. Fire Administration fatality notification, Frye responded to multiple medical calls involving COVID-19 patients.

Frye was diagnosed on August 29 and died from complications on September 29.

“He was a dear brother and friend and his infectious smile will be deeply missed by all,” a statement by the department read. “We honor him with a short video of our beloved brother.”
