Video: Medics rescue pair from submerged truck during flood

They got them into an inflatable boat minutes before the car was submerged; torrential rain has caused flooding across the Sydney region

WOODVILLE, Australia — Dramatic video shows paramedics rescuing two people from the roof of a submerged vehicle moments before it was swept away by rushing floodwaters.

The flood occurred when the Paterson River burst it’s banks, 9News reports.

Paramedics Jason Watson and Dan O’Shannessy paddled through fast-moving water in an inflatable rescue boat to reach the pair who had climbed on top of their car and were visibly shivering.

Rescuers got them into the rescue boat minutes before the truck disappeared into the water.

Determined not to give up, the paramedics struggled against a strong wind and current and finally reached the mass of waiting emergency services back on shore.

A severe weather warning remains in effect throughout Sydney and surrounding regions as torrential rain has caused rising floodwaters, leading to at least three deaths and reports of people missing.
