SWINDON, England — A British man raised almost $9,000 to buy ambulances in Uganda by skydiving naked.
Howard Smith, a 50-year-old electrical engineer, took the challenge from POND, a charity organization in partnership between Wales and Uganda.
The father-of-two raised more than $3,000 last year doing his first tandem skydive. This year, he decided to take it a step further. “It started as a joke, but it is for such a good cause, and when I realized that doing this sponsored skydive with the extra challenge of doing it naked would increase the amount raised significantly, I decided to go for it,” he told This is Wiltshire.
The money raised will go toward the creation of an emergency ambulance service in the region of Mbale, Uganda, using eRanger motorcycle ambulances, which have a specially designed patient bed as a sidecar, and can access the narrow routes that are the only way to get to many of the villages.
