SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities say about 50 people in a Salt Lake City homeless shelter were taken to hospitals for suspected food poisoning.
A Fire Department spokesman says EMTs responded to the St. Vincent DePaul shelter Sunday night after receiving reports of multiple people vomiting. Jasen Asay says a bus was brought in to take many of them to different hospitals for treatment.
None of those sickened was in critical condition.
Asay says the Health Department is investigating. It’s not clear what caused them to fall ill.
He wasn’t sure early Monday what food the shelter had served.
Hundreds of people were in the shelter at the time. Asay says people from the men’s and women’s side of the partitioned shelter fell ill.
