Police: Overdosed man required 7 doses of Narcan

The 50-year-old Mass. man received 4 doses from firefighters, 3 from paramedics

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. Police, firefighters, and paramedics have responded to two overdoses in the last two days, including one where a 50-year-old man received seven doses of Narcan.

The man was found in unconscious on the living room floor of an apartment in the city’s south end. A friend had called police that the man had overdosed, Lt. Amos Melo of the New Bedford Police Department told South Coast Today.

Firefighters gave the 50-year-old man three doses of Narcan, and paramedics gave him an additional four doses, according to Lt. Melo. The patient was then transported to St. Luke’s hospital for further treatment and monitoring.

In the second overdose, a 44-year-old woman was found in a house in the city’s North End, Melo said. Police officers gave the woman two doses of Narcan and she was transported to St. Luke’s hospital for further treatment and monitoring.
