Ore. rescue personnel extricate man from toppled toilet

A homeless man was trapped inside a porta-potty after other individuals asked him to stop masturbating and kicked the structure over

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Fire and Rescue personnel rescued a man trapped in a portable toilet after the structure had been toppled by onlookers who were “tired” of seeing him masturbate in the porta-potty.

An anonymous homeless person told police that the 48-year-old man was inside the porta-potty with his pants around his ankles, holding the door open as he pleasured himself. The person told the police that other homeless people were “tired of his behavior” so they knocked over the porta-potty and ran away.

The incident, at the Eastbank Esplanade at the foot of Portland’s Hawthorne Bridge, was reported to a police sergeant at 8 a.m. The man was trapped because the porta-potty was lying on its door.

"(He) was flashing us over and over again, and we asked him multiple times and told him to stop and he wouldn’t,” a homeless woman said to KOMONews.com. “Our friend thought it would be funny to get up and jump behind the porta-potty and kick it.”

The police and fire responders were able to rescue him, though he was covered in fecal matter and other waste from the tank of the porta-potty.

The police elected not to arrest the man.

“Physically, he’s fine but he had a crappy day,” Portland Police officer Willie Halliburton said. “Fortunately for him, he had some clothing he could change into and clean himself up later on. It worked out OK.”
