SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — A house fire in Colton almost took the life of a dog, but paramedics were able to resuscitate it, said Colton Fire Department spokesman Tom DeBellis.

No one was injured in the fire at 992 East Grant St., he said.

The cause of the fire, which took place at about 6:30 p.m. and did about $12,000 in damage to the house, is still under investigation, but DeBellis said it appears to be accidental.

DeBellis said he saw the dog when he entered the house to see if anyone was inside. He thought the dog was dead, but a paramedic began pumping oxygen into its mouth and snout, DeBellis said. Within 20 minutes, the dog appeared to have recovered, he said.
