HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — A Hot Springs woman struck by an alleged drunken driver while protecting trick-or-treaters on Halloween night faces a long recovery, but Thursday night, she made her first public appearance since she was nearly killed one week ago.

A stadium full of people cheered on Jennifer Rowton as she escorted her son on to the Cutter Morning Star High School football field on Senior Night. Rowton was discharged from the hospital so she could escort her son.

“It’s been tough to get here tonight, but I"m just so excited,” Rowton said. The pair held hands as she admired a signed No. 17 football Ethan presented her. The team followed by giving Rowton a group hug. Rowton was adamant about being at her son’s game.
