Va. fire and EMS director faces fraud, theft charges

Brandon Mitchell was arrested for obtaining money by false pretenses; it was discovered he also faced charges of theft from his prior department

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. — The director of a fire and EMS station who was arrested on felony fraud charges in Virginia also faces charges in another state.

WSET.com reported Rockbridge County Fire and EMS Director Brandon Mitchell was arrested in Rockbridge County on Monday for charges of obtaining money by false pretenses and fraudulently selling property worth more than $200,000 without the consent of the owner. Mitchell allegedly attempted to sell a 2016 Porsche without the consent of the bank that had a lien on the car.

Prior to working in Rockbridge County, Mitchell was a battalion chief in White City. Mitchell pleaded not guilty to charges of stealing more than $1,000 from the White City Fire Department last August.

At a court hearing Thursday, Mitchell was granted a motion to change his plea in the case. The plea change was postponed by his arrest.
