LAKE FOREST, Calif. — A male pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Lake Forest on Monday night, causing cancellations to several Orange County-bound trains.

Authorities were called at 5:17 p.m. about a pedestrian hit by an northbound Amtrak train, 785, near Bake Parkway, just north of Muirlands Boulevard and south of the Irvine train station, said Lt. Gene Inouye of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Paramedics found the victim near Lake Forest Drive and declared him dead at the scene, said Capt. Larry Kurtz of the Orange County Fire Authority. The person’s age was not available.

The incident did not occur at a railroad crossing.

Investigators believe the male committed suicide, Inouye said.

The Pacific Surfliner Amtrak train out of San Diego was bound for Goleta in Santa Barbara County. No passengers or crew were injured. All passengers were transferred to another train.

Four Amtrak trains were affected, but two had begun traveling to their destinations as of 8:50 p.m., Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.

Several Metrolink trains were canceled mid-route because of the closed tracks. They included OC Lines 608 to Oceanside, 645 to Fullerton and 642 to Laguna Niguel, according to Metrolink tweets.

OmniTrans buses were being provided for passengers at the Irvine and Laguna Niguel stations for passengers headed north.
