Man gets 13 years for crash that killed NJ EMT

He was sentenced after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated manslaughter for the 2012 accident that killed an EMT and a patient

UNION COUNTY, N.J. — A former Elizabeth resident was sentenced to 13 years in prison last week for causing the deaths of two people in a 2012 car crash, including Montclair resident and EMT Keith Chipepo.

James Sterling, 30, also known as James Megget, was sentenced on Wednesday, Oct. 29. According to a release from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Sterling was originally indicted for aggravated manslaughter, eluding, aggravated assault, vehicle homicide, driving with a suspended license and causing death while driving with a suspended license. He has six prior felony convictions for aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy, possession of narcotics and weapons offenses.

Sterling pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated manslaughter in July.
