EMT program receives new ambulance simulator

An EMT instructor said it would allow students to get real world experience

SAN BENITO, Texas — An EMT program was gifted with a new ambulance simulator.

Valley Central reported that San Benito CISD’s Veteran Memorial Academy received $150,000 worth of equipment, including the ambulance simulator.

“It is much easier than having your standard lecture and lab in the classroom setting,” EMT instructor Jamie Ibarra said. “With this simulator, they get to experience the challenges that they would face in a pre-hospital setting, with the confined spaces and the movement of the ambulance.”

Ibarra said it would allow students to get a feel “for it as far as how it is in the real world.”

With the new equipment, students will be able to obtain four certifications in advanced airway management, emergency pharmacology, EKG ratings and EMT certifications.
