Indianapolis EMS reports big change in Narcan use

Injection or instranasal administration of naloxone for narcotics overdose increased in 2014

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Call 6 Investigators have learned Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services dispensed more than 1,000 doses of Narcan in 2014.

The drug is used as either an injection or nasal spray and can save those on the brink of death from a heroin overdose.

By comparison, in 2013, only 629 doses were administered. So far in 2015, only two doses have been needed.
