Man charged for posing as firefighter, responding to EMS calls

Travis Bowman, 31, allegedly went into a home the paramedics were responding to on two occasions

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Fire officials say a man, posing as an emergency responder, showed up to several emergency calls over the past few weeks.

Travis Bowman, 31, is charged with five counts of impersonating a firefighter, two counts of breaking and entering and one count of using a red light on a prohibited vehicle, WSET reported.

Fire officials said crews quickly recognized the man because he was frequently showing up to accidents and EMS calls.

He allegedly went into a home the paramedics were responding to on two separate occasions.

“It’s definitely different,” Asst. Fire Marshall Clint Smith said. “But it showed that the fire department, people there on the scene were paying attention to who’s around.”

Bowman is out on bond and will be back in court next week.
