EMT scholarship program started for minority students

The scholarship’s goal is to create a more diverse workforce and it covers costs to achieve EMT or CNA certification

MADISON, Wis. — A new scholarship for adults of color wanting to become EMTs or CNAs was launched by Agrace to create a more diverse health care workforce.

The Collaboration for the Calling program is a partnership between Agrace Hospice & Palliative Care, Catholic Charities of Madison and Ryan Brothers Ambulance Service.

The scholarship pays for adult students to learn, train and prepare to work at one of the three sponsor organizations. Students selected to participate in the program will receive full tuition, books, supplies, mentoring, and the cost of the certification exam will be covered as well.

The scholarship was developed after the success of a similar program for disadvantaged high school students of color.

“The feedback Agrace heard from our high school CNA Scholars Program was so positive that we immediately began to look for ways to expand our efforts to include adults,” says Lynne Myers, Agrace president and CEO.
