LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah — The program that transports emergency patients to the University Hospital by helicopter, is “bigger, stronger and safer,” a hospital official told families and friends of four people who died when a helicopter crashed in bad weather 10 years ago.
More than 70 people gathered at the U hospital helipad Friday afternoon to remember the 10-year anniversary one of the most heartbreaking events in the hospital’s history.
On Jan. 11, 1998, AirMed helicopter number four went down in Little Cottonwood Canyon during a sudden snowstorm. The crash killed everyone on board: Pilot Stan Berg, Paramedic Tim Hynes, Registered Nurse Shayne Carnahan and patient David Anderson.
