LAFAYETTE, La. — A paramedic stood with lawmakers this week in support of a bill that would require AEDs to be on all Lafayette (La.) Parish high school campuses.
According to a Facebook post by Acadian Ambulances, State Rep. Vincent Pierre asked paramedic Jason Hunt, a 19-year EMS veteran and a National EMS Academy instructor, to demonstrate how easy AEDs are to use to representatives from the House Committee of Education as they considered House Bill 147.
“AEDs are extremely important because they strengthen the chain of survival by more than 70 percent,” Hunt said. “Many people shy away from AEDs because the thought of operating a piece of equipment that could potentially save a life is intimidating.”
Hunt said he was glad to do his part to convince representatives.
“I was honored to be asked by Representative Pierre to demonstrate its ease of use,” he said. “It was a pleasure to go.”
