WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — A man was arrested for attacking a female paramedic who was trying to treat him in the back of an ambulance.

The Williamsport Sun-Gazette reported that Orlando Wilford “lunged at the paramedic, grabbed her by the hair and began to claw her face” while on a stretcher. EMS and police were originally dispatched to investigate a man who was intoxicated Friday evening.

When officers arrived on scene, they said Wilford “uttered sentences that made no sense,” according to the report. A witness said he had been on the ground for 15 minutes.

“His eyes were red, bloodshot and glassy,” an officer said.

Wilford was loaded into the back of the ambulance, but officers were later called back minutes later after he attacked one of the paramedics. Two other paramedics restrained Wilford in the ambulance until officers arrived.

The paramedic climbed out of the back of the ambulance with “blood and cuts on her face,” according to the report. Another paramedic suffered a cut to his right arm.

Wilford was arraigned on charges of aggravated and simple assault, resisting arrest and public drunkenness.
