More than 1,000 EMS providers from Minnesota and Wisconsin attended the 35th annual Arrowhead EMS conference in Duluth, Minnesota. Although a January visit to Duluth, on the southwest shore of Lake Superior, may not sound appealing to many, attendees at this conference enjoyed a packed exhibit hall and continuing education sessions from top EMS educators. Take a look at our coverage of the Arrowhead EMS conference:
Session: Planning for a line of duty death
Dwight Polk, paramedic program director for the University of Maryland Baltimore County, implored EMS managers to plan and prepare for the inevitability of a LODD in their organization, in a session that was both somber and forward looking.
Session: EMS providers learn the art of moulage
Educator, paramedic, and software developer John Dillon delivered a hands-on break-out session on the art of making mock injuries to make training more realistic and engaging.
Session: Distraction is deadly
In this session Greg Friese, EMS1 editor-in-chief, discussed the hazards of distraction and the danger it poses for driving, education, and patient care. Attendees learned that the public is well aware of the dangers of distracted driving, but there is a lot of work to be done to change behavior.
Products: 5 products to improve patient care and provider safety
Several products caught our attention on the show floor. We share what learned about those products from representatives at the show.
Products: exhibit hall showcased products for EMS to improve their craft
High quality, well designed, and durable products for patient assessment, treatment, and transport are essential to EMS success. Arrowhead EMS attendees had plenty of opportunities to get hands on and learn more about the products available to them.
