CEDAR HILL, Tenn. — A veteran paramedic and his family lost everything after their home was destroyed in a fire over the weekend.

Firefighters responded to the home of paramedic Robby Hudson Saturday; he and his family were not home at the time, reported WKRN. Cold weather, near-frozen gear and the house’s older design made the flames difficult to battle, reported the Smokey Barn.

Hudson was at work when he was told about his home. “It’s just devastating for one of our own to go through something like this,” paramedic Michelle Roby told News Channel 5.

Hudson said the outpouring of support from the community and colleagues has been overwhelming. A GoFundMe account has raised over $9,000 for Hudson and his family.

Donations are also being collected at the Robertson County EMS station. “The support was way more than what we ever expected it to be. We have truck loads of stuff,” Roby said.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
