DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — A man who caused the death of a 37-year-old Tallapoosa volunteer fireman and EMT in a March 25, 2012 crash on I-20 after a night of drinking at a strip club will spend the next 14 years in prison.

Dallas resident 34-year-old Francisco Ferrer entered a non-negotiated guilty plea Wednesday on charges of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and following too close in the crash that killed Jason Dale Strickland, 37, of Tallapoosa.

After hearing 9-1-1 calls, the facts of the case from Assistant District Attorney Ryan Leonard and hearing emotional statements from Strickland’s family and friends, Douglas County Superior Court Judge Robert J. James accepted the plea and unloaded on Ferrer.
