STURGIS, S.D. — Like many ambulance and emergency medical services teams throughout the state, the Sturgis Ambulance Service can’t keep up with demand.
Shawn Fischer, Sturgis Ambulance Service Supervisor, said that already this year, their service calls are up by more than 16 percent.
“That’s in addition to being up 11 percent last year as compared to 2012. We were running around 1,500 calls in 2012 and as of May 8 we are at 653. That doesn’t have rally in it or anything,” she said. The reason for the increase is anyone’s guess, Fischer said.
