BOSTON — Boston EMS providers are staffing their assigned units and stations for the 2023 Boston Marathon.
James Hooley, the head of Boston EMS, told NBCBoston that EMTs will be deployed both on foot and on bicycles along the race route, with ambulances standing by for transport.
The Boston Police Department is utilizing both uniformed and undercover officers on site, according to a press release from the mayor’s office.
Boston firefighters will also be patrolling the race route and can respond to incidents. The department is staging specialized units in the event of emergency, including for Tech Rescue, HazMat and Decon.
Coastal Medical Transportation Systems is also providing transports, bike teams, tactical EMS providers and other personnel.
First responders prepared for the event for months.
The marathon was bombed 10 years ago.
