SPARTA, N.J. —A man was charged after assaulting an EMT and a police officer.

New Jersey Herald reported that police responded to a disturbance and found Zachary Losapio yelling obscenities at other people from a front porch. He was asked to calm down, but Losapio ignored commands and had to be forcibly arrested after challenging officers.

He began banging his head on the glass in the patrol car, police said.

An EMS crew was called to evaluate Losapio while he was in jail due to his high level of intoxication and self-inflicted injuries.

Police said Losapio’s violence increased and he tried to assault EMT personnel and officers. He continued to bang his head on the cell concrete wall and was transported to the hospital.

Losapio continued his violence at the hospital and threw a chair in his room.

He was treated and released from the hospital. Losapio was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and an EMT, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, simple assault and criminal mischief.
