Rural EMS crews feel left out

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Dozens of rural rescue workers said Tuesday they resent being left out of planning that went into Lifeline Mobile Medics’ decision to quit emergency medical runs by 2009.

“There are some feelings of antagonism because you planned this without including us,” Gail Rafferty, administrator of LeRoy’s ambulance service, told officials from Lifeline and Bloomington-Normal at a forum Tuesday. “That’s offensive. That’s a real put-down for the knowledge we have in the county.”

They also gave a chilly reception to a plan to have the Bloomington Fire Department take over Lifeline’s role in rural areas. Many of the 40 or so rescue workers in the audience said they doubt the plan will work.
