Angela Raziano of Luling was honored by the Louisiana Association of Registered Emergency Medical Technicians at the group’s annual conference last month in New Orleans.
Raziano, 23, was the recipient of the group’s EMT-Basic of the Year Award. Each year the association presents awards to first-responders, EMTs and paramedics for outstanding service and dedication to their jobs.
Raziano was among 10 recipients chosen from a field of more than 10,000 first responders, EMTs and paramedics in Louisiana. In the EMT-Basic division, she competed against more than 5,000 EMT-Basic to win the state award.
Raziano, the daughter of Audrey and Benny Raziano, been employed as an EMT-Basic with West Jefferson Medical Center for two years. In March 2006, Raziano was named employee of the month at West Jefferson Medical Center.
She also is enrolled in an EMT/paramedic program.
Supervisor Steve Brown said Raziano is an outstanding employee who goes above the call of duty.
“Angela shows compassion to her patients while working closely with her co-workers,” Brown said. “She leads by example and is always willing to go the extra mile. She has been a joy to work with and has shown dedication to both her job and overall profession as an EMT Basic.”
Raziano will advance to the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians competition later this year.
Raziano, a graduate of Hahnville High School, said she is proud to receive the award.
“This award has been a big achievement because I have only been at West Jefferson for two years,” she said. “I was very excited, but I have to thank everyone who has worked with me and helped me over the past two years.”
