Ind. paramedic suffers from fatal heart attack during concert

WESTFIELD, Ind. — Paramedic Mark E. Marvel, 45, with Seals Ambulance Service, died from a heart attack Friday, July 25, in Indianapolis, while providing coverage at a concert.

According to sources, Marvel was covering an evening concert at Verizon Music Center when he suffered an apparent heart attack. Marvel was the director of training for the Seals Ambulance Service in Fortville. He was also a fire instructor.

He was a member of the Cicero Township Volunteer Fire Department in Tipton and had worked for on the neonatal transport team for Riley Hospital for Children and in the Methodist Hospital emergency room.

He was born Nov. 30, 1962, in Gary, Ind., the son of Ralph and Sue (Swadener) Marvel, who survive in Fishers.

Marvel is survived by his parents, Ralph and Sue Marvel; his wife, Joann M. Scruggs, two adult children, and step children.

Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Morningstar Church in Kokomo. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, also at the church. The Rev. Greg Reed will officiate. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Park, Noblesville.

Memorials may be made to Seals Ambulance service for sponsorships of future paramedic students, the Cicero Township Volunteer Fire Department or the Noblesville Fire Department.
