BRISTOL, Conn. — A 23-year-old man who lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree on Terryville Avenue early Thursday morning was pronounced dead at the scene, where a patrol officer found the 1991 Jeep Cherokee “wrapped” around a tree, according to a police report.
Traffic Lt. Kevin Morrell said Officer Demond Wil-son, while on routine patrol, came across the accident and immediately called for EMS and fire crews to extricate and treat the young man, identified as James Bentivengo.
Bentivengo, an EMT who worked for Bristol Hospital EMS, was the son of the fire department’s union president, Tom Bentivengo. According to Senior Fire Capt. Mark Martin, the younger Bentivengo was in the process of testing for a position with the fire department.
