CHICAGO — A Logan Square man crashed into an ambulance and a fire truck while driving drunk early Saturday in Wicker Park, according to prosecutors.

Anthony Ramos, 35, crashed into an ambulance and a fire truck that were at 1570 N. Milwaukee Ave. for an unrelated incident about 4:20 a.m. Saturday, said Matt Howroyd, an assistant Cook County state’s attorney. Ramos was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 after a bond hearing Sunday.

Ramos got out of the driver’s seat of the vehicle with his hat in his hand and his keys in his hat, according to court documents.

The ambulance’s rear driver’s side was damaged and the fire truck’s front bumper was damaged. Ramos’ green 2016 Jeep ended up facing north, wedged against the fire truck’s front right bumper, according to court documents.

When Ramos was asked what happened, he replied, “I was trying to go around the ambulance and fire truck,” according to an arrest report.

Officers were called and Ramos was found with bloodshot, glassy eyes and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, according to the report. Ramos said he had “four beers in the past hour” when he was asked if he had anything to drink, according to the report. Field sobriety tests indicated he was under the influence of alcohol, according to Howroyd. Ramos refused the Breathalyzer and has no valid driver’s license, Howroyd said. There were no injuries.

Ramos was charged with failure to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle, failure to reduce speed, driving under the influence of alcohol and aggravated DUI with no valid driver’s license.

Ramos, of the 2600 block of North Avers Avenue, is next scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
